Legislation brief:

This resolution was issued to clarify when health data or information may be stored or transferred outside the UAE and terms and conditions related to each case, including health information and data on patients who are treated outside the UAE within the limits of the necessary treatment procedures, data related to samples that are sent for laboratories outside the UAE, information needed by insurance institutions under specific conditions, information related to simple medical devices and tools, and any other health information or data approved by the health authority, provided that copies of them are kept and stored inside the UAE.

The resolution also permits storing and transferring data that is used as part of scientific research, provided that such data is encrypted and transmitted using media based on highest security standards. Such data shall only be used for the purposes of the existing research.
