Ministerial Resolution No. (19) of 2022 on the Criteria for Diagnosing Death

Legislation brief:

This ministerial resolution sets the controls and criteria for diagnosing death resulting from the respiratory arrest and cardiac arrest, which includes sudden respiratory arrest, absent pulse, lack of blood pressure, in addition to the inability to hear the heartbeat with a stethoscope, or the complete and final arrest of all brain functions.

The resolution also includes diagnostic criteria for sporadic cases that are one of the preconditions for deaths resulting from the complete arrest of all brain functions, including comas with a specific and known cause. It also includes cases when the patient is under a respirator system with shortness of breath. The brain death incident shall be confirmed after 6 hours, provided that there is no response to any type of stimulus.
