The national policy to combat communicable diseases of the United Arab Emirates

Policy brief:

The spread of communicable diseases and the measures required to address them are among the most prominent challenges facing the health systems of all countries, especially if we consider the rapid spread of these diseases and their transmission across countries of the world. For this reason, the Ministry of Health and prevention has prepared the national policy for combating communicable diseases issued by the honorable cabinet. In 2019, to strengthen efforts through a multi-sectoral national framework to combat and address communicable diseases in the country, in order to enhance the health of the individual and the Emirati society within the framework of a healthy environment free from the risks of communicable diseases. The policy aims to:

  • mproving the capabilities of preventing, detecting and confronting communicable diseases through actions
    • Improving surveillance capabilities and improving public health laboratory testing capabilities
    • Improving preparedness and response capacity
    • Implement evidence-based prevention policies
    • Effective communications in the field of public health and prevention of communicable diseases
  • Improving the organization and implementation of strategies to combat communicable diseases through actions:
    • Advocate and support leadership and governance
    • Strengthening the workforce
    • Improve information systems and research capacity
    • Adequate and appropriate financing and infrastructure
    • Effective national partnerships and networks
    • International cooperation
