This Federal Law governs the use of medically assisted reproduction techniques (ART) by licensed medical facilities in the UAE. According to the law, ART are determined by a decision of Ministry of Health and Prevention and these techniques may not be used in places other than medical centers licensed for this purpose. The law lays down terms and conditions for applying the medically assisted reproduction techniques as follows: It may be implemented after a written consent from the person to accept the use of the technique; the technique must be most appropriate medically for the patient.

The law also deals with the mandates of the health authority in dealing with medically assisted reproduction centers, conditions for licensing such centers, preservation or destruction of frozen fertilized ova and sperm. The provisions of this law apply to all ART centers in the UAE, including ART centers established in free zones.
