Legislation brief:
The resolution includes all amendments to Articles (2) and (3) of Cabinet Resolution No. (7) of 2008, so that expatriates coming to the UAE for the purpose of residency are subject to the medical examinations stipulated in this resolution. These examinations include screening for AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency virus), and screening for viral hepatitis, which is limited to certain groups. Residency is not granted to positive cases unless the purpose of the residency request is changed within a period not exceeding 30 days from the date of notification of the examination result. These examinations also include an examination for tuberculosis, which is conducted on all new arrivals to the country, and an examination of leprosy, of which positive cases are considered unfit for residence purposes, whether for new arrivals or upon renewal, in addition to a pregnancy examination that is limited to domestic workers. The resolution also specifies the criteria for exemption from the health fitness requirement for residency in the country.
